Francis Albert Sinatra : 1915 - 1998

Due to the wonderful contributions we continue to receive, we've added this guestbook to make it easier for you to share your fond memories of Frank. If you have sent us something for the site that hasn't been added yet, rest assured it will be added in the near future.

Thanks to each and every one of you who helped us build this fitting tribute to Frank. We couldn't have done it without you.

I may be only fifteen years old, but I've managed to be a huge Frank Sinatra fan. There was a time when the only lullaby I knew was the tender lilt in the voice of ol' blue eyes, as he crooned in the background of Tommy Dorsey's glistening trombone. Then I grew a little older, a little wiser, and of course, started to like boys. The funny thing is, I've never had any pictures of Leonardo DiCaprio, or any of those teeny-bopper heart throbs. I lined my walls with pictures of a young, lady-killin' Louis Prima, baby-faced Bobby Darrin, a spunky Cab Calloway, and of course, my own wickedly angelic black and white photo of Frankie. They sure don't make em' like that no more. So, Mr. Sinatra, wherever you are, may you be bathed in the sparkling soft light of "Polka dots and Moonbeams" and may you always kiss your "pug-nosed dream." Arivaderci, cada mia.

I've been a fan of Frank Sinatra since I was five years old. From Harry James to Tommy Dorsey. Then to the Hit Parade. I used sit in the parlor and listen to the radio.I would listen to the top hits of the week. Then when I was eighteen we try act like Frank. His music will always live in my wife's and mines heart. We have about ninetyfive percent of his music. He was the greatest.

Where to begin? My journey with Frank began some 18 years ago. I was 7 at the time and listening to the sounds of "Ol Blue Eyes" fill my granfather's house on a warm July afternoon during a family cook out. It just blew me away as my grandfather Salvatore explained the chairman to me. He said to me "There's a man with talent and some day fella you're gonna sing like him" I was totally enthralled with the music and my grandad made me sing with frank and he used to have me sing for his buddies down at the hall. I knew then that all I wanted to do was meet the Chairman, but unfortunately I never got the chance but hopefully someday I will. Just listening and singing with the albumns taught me alot and it got me quite a bit of attention as I hit highschool and performed with the jazz band. Sorry I'm rambling!! He was great and he taght me that you can do anything you set your mind too. He was and is a great human being and I miss him dearly. Sleep Tight Frankie angel. Salute Paisano.

Frank how do you explain greatness? He inspired so many and did it his way. It was a sad day for me when I heard the news. But I see old blue eyes up there with his hat singing away. I just wanted to say thanx for the music and the memories. You will live on in all of us. Yes....... it was his way.

Here is a letter I wrote to Frank Sinatra.....Dec.12 1996 My Dear "Best Friend" Frank Sinatra, I know you do not know or remember me. I was the Room Service waiter at Resorts..Atlantic City who took care of you and Dean Martin along with Corky the waiter. It was 1979. I was also the younger waiter at the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill who could not wait to give my checks out to my customers, so I could go behind the left curtain and watch you do your "magic"on stage during the last year. I think it was 1978. I was also the young fourteen year old in the year 1967 who was mesmerized by "The Sounds of Sinatra" every Friday night on WWDB-Sid Mark's great show. Most of the kids thought I was nuts, but I knew what I was feeiling when you sang a song. Nobody in my age group could feel the things you sang about. I could. I am also the not so middle aged young man of 43 years old today who still gets goosebumps up and down my arms when I hear you sing "Come Rain or Come Shine". What a song. I am taking the time right now to say "thank you-thank you- thank you" for all the pleasure you have given me in your music. You have "greatly touched" me and those around me. You have given me an awareness of love and the way it should be through your music. THere were many times when I thought of writing to you, but I never knew what to say. I know about 99 % of your music by heart (don't worry I forget some of the lines too on occasion). If it wasn't for you and Tony Benett I don't know who I'd listen to. He is #2. I guess you cold guess who #1 is. Mr. Sinatra, Hope there is enough Grace in God to give you as many more healthy years as you so desire. I also hope there is some way of you to let me know you have received this letter. My best wishes for you and your family for the coming holiday season. Take care...Mr. S and may God bless you.

I can only say a great thankyou to 'The Voice'. Had it not been for his velvet voice, and outstanding career then he would never have given me the oportunity to write a musical, giving theatre, and musical lovers the chance to fully expierience Sinatra. The gift that was given to him made him what he is today, a god, in the eyes of his fans. A memory for people to hold on to. It makes me feel so proud when an audience cheer and go wild after singing such fantastic songs as 'All the way','New York','Night and day'. If the way I feel close to the way the way that Frank felt, I think Ill be singing them forever.

Ever since i was 14 yrs old, Mr. Sinatra has been my singer; to this day, he brings back fond memories of my youth; when i play his cds or tapes, i'm full of mixed emotions because i miss him; he had such a beautiful voice; he enabled the listener to feel everything he was singing because, I feel, he really felt the emotions he was singing about (both sad and happy); i just want to know how his family is doing; especially nancy; she was very close to him; my thoughts are with you. anna adamchek.

Dear Mr. Sinatra, I'm 35 years of age and have just found the magic of Franks wonderful voice that has changed my out look on life! The days of good guy's & bad guy's and how the Rat Pack fit into both worlds. My business partner and myself are looking to bring the Rat Pack style back to the Detroit area. I am very interested in finding Joey Bishop the last living legend of the Rat Pack. This would allow me to understand the man and is musical style that put him on top of the would. It's time Detroit felt the energy of Frank Sinatra or A.K.A. "CB" leading his Rat Pack into people's heart once again! SO WATCH OUT DETROIT BECAUSE THE RAT PACK IS BACK! Jerry.

Frank Sinatra was a legend, and as the saying goes "Legends never die." Frank will live on through his music and his movies. He sang it best when you sang, "That's life." Unfortunate for me I am only 16 and I missed living out Frank's golden years. But I'm very thankful that I've been raised with his movies and music. He has been a hero of mine sice I was little. His death was indeed sad, but at least he left behind his legacy.

None of us wanted to believe it. When I heard the news on the morning on May 15th, it was heartbreak, disbelieve and tears. Some say his death has left an indelible mark on all our hearts...most will agree, however, it was his life we'll never forget. No,he wasn't perfect, but who is? He was a man of style, grace and talent and is a hero we'll always need. "You gotta love livin' baby, 'cause dyin' is a pain in the ass." - Frank Sinatra

I was 16 years old when I first saw Mr. Sinatra at the Hartford Civic Center in 1975. I was young, but I knew this was a man who has been there and back. He sang the song Didn't we that night and I had just broke up with a girl that week. From that day I have been following him right up to the end. I work at Foxwoods Resort Casino, one of the last times he would perform was at the Foxwoods theater. It was great to see him one last time. I also had the chance to see Sammy & Dean perform. There will never be another Frank Sinatra or Sammy or Dean, never!. Will miss him. Man, what a show going on in heaven.

Frank deserves every tribute that comes to him. He withstood through a lot of attack from the press and media. His personal life was exploited. He was even an outcast for a while. But, he knew how to make people laugh and enjoy themselves, which can be quite difficult at times...

I stood on line at the Paramount many times to see Frank. After he died, there was many pictures in the paper going back to the Paramount Days and I spotted my friend and my self on line in l945. That was my graduation year from high school. I first saw Frank in person at the McAlpin Hotel circa l945. I grew up with him and his music which influenced all milestones in my life and kept me smiling and crying for these many years. I will always love Frank.

I am 27, and I recall several things about Frank from growing up in Pennsylvania. I had a 45 with "All of Me" that my grandmother Rose had given me. I listened to that record again and again, and by far it is a treasured favorite. I never saw Frank play, but my grandmother did. She saw him when he was with Tommy. I'm glad she shared his music with me, and for me, Frank embodies greatness. I will share him with my children and my students. Hey, Frank, I love you! Stacey

My dream as a "wee" child in the early forties was to meet Sinatra! It took almost 50 years--but I met him (5-13-93)and it was the experience of a lifetime. He was really a nice man. I did get to be there for many of his concerts--including one of his last few (Kiel Auditorium, St. Louis), and in Las Vegas. When he sang, it always seemed that he was singing just to me. You know what--he was that way off stage as well! He'll never be forgotten.

Frank Sinatra wasn't a big part of my life until lately. I grew up in the theatre, and a friend of mine (Bugsy, as he was called) was a big Sinatra fan, so through him, I grew to respect Frank as an entertainer. It wasn't until earlier this year (May) that I got to know Mister Sinatra in the field of music. I was doing a report on the Rat Pack for school, and there, at the low-brow Target stores, was a "Frank Sinatra Gold" for only 5.99. I bought it, needless to say, and the thing didn't leave my CD player for about a month and a half (replaced with a Dean Martin CD, no doubt). Currently, I'm saving money to purchase the Reprise edition of all of his recordings. Either way, whenever I got upset (which was alot, seeming I pined after way too many females who I knew I couldn't speak to) I would turn on Frank, and all the problems would seem a-ok. Frank's the only one who understands me, and he'll forever live on in my memories and heart, as well as that of my children (which won't come along for a while, but...well...what better way? Hook 'em while their young). After doing more study, I've come to a final conclusion. This truly IS Sinatra's world. You and I? We just live in it.

I am 30 yrs old and have listened to Frank Sinatra for as long as I can remember. He was always one of my Dad'd favorite singers, so I grew up listening to The Rat Pack. I have told friends that the greatest regret in my life is that I was never able to see Frank perform live. I think that will always be my greatest regret. I have two children-a nine yr old and a four yr old-and they love Frank almost as much as I do. And that makes me proud! It is wonderful to know that my kids will keep his music alive well into the next millennium. Susan

Frank, Frank, Frank. I am what you call a Frank fan. The usual stuff: 200 CDs, all the bios. The music. That's all that matters. No greater voice, heart on his sleeves, sad, ebullient. Gone a year, but here forever. True artist, greater singer of popular song there will never be. In that sense, alive forever more. Centuries from now, he'll still be listened to and all the singers to come will try and fail to be his equal.

The legend that Frank Sinatra left us, will never be forgotten! For some, he was just another singer, but for others, he enriched their lives greatly with his God-given talent! The day Sinatra died, was a great tragedy. We not only lost a singer, we lost an actor, a husband, a father, but above all, we lost a great man!! He truly graced this world by living! I will never forget the first time I heard Mr. Sinatra, I was only 6 or 7 years old and I heard Mrs. Robinson, but the song that stood out the most was All The Way. Every once in awhile an 'Ava Gardener' will enter my life and break my heart, it is at this time I feel no ones can understand my pain, and then I play '"I'm a fool to love you.' And it is at this time, I know Mr. Sinatra sings for me. We miss you Mr. Sinatra I've seen you perform only twice in my life the last tim in N.Y.C April 1994. Your last appearance in New York but never in my heart. Your fan Ron

"It's post time." Yes, indeed it is. Frank will always be remembered for the characters he portrayed on screen; for the songs he crooned; and for the countless hearts and minds he captured. He was larger than life itself, and that was somehow appropriate for a man whose talent knew no bounds. Someone once asked me, his voice tinged with sarcasm and perhaps criticism, why I listen to Frank's music. I didn't miss a beat with my response. "Frank is the twentieth century," I answered. "That's why I'm a fan." God bless you, Frank. It's been a pleasure lending you my ear.

I turned on the radio Santa gave me for Christmas in 1965 and heard this voice. It was him (me). I've been listening ever since. I met him in 1981. There I was, next to and speaking with THE guy. What a life. What a treasure. I miss him like I miss my grandfather. It's an ache, an irrational melonchaly that never wanes. His music is the music of my life. I've lived my life more wholesomely, but vicariously through his. I am my own man. I'm going my own way. Frank has been there as a guide for 35 years. Fondly, The Voice II

I would just like to say that Frank Sinatra set standard by wich we should and do judge all other music. Frank truly showed us what it means to live the music. I am only 15 and was turned on to Frank's music by my great-grandfather and I am sure glad of it. Frank Sinatra touched all ages, now and then. Frank will never leave us unless we forget him, and i don't see that happing for quite a long time! Thanks.

Mr. Sinatra has been part of my life since I heard him sing "Polka Dots & Moonbeams" in 1939. He sent me an autographed picture and asked for one oe me, which I sent!I saw him so many times - at a horse show in ST. Louis with T.D. and his orchestra, in Detroit on stage, in Albuquerque in his own show, many times in Las Vegas. I always thought I would meet him, but never did - my one regret. His music was very important and still is in my life.

It's almost unbelievable that a year has passed since Frank left us for that big casino in the sky. I think of him daily and hear him singing everyday on radio or I'll put on a disc of the nearly hundred albums I own. As a teenager in upstate New York in the early 40's, Frankie was my idol. My first piano sheet music was "All or Nothing at All." I heard the news of Frank's death while vacationing in Nassau, Bahamas. That evening at dinner, without a word of introduction, the steel drum performer played "My Way." There was a prolonged silence before the applause. A moment never to be forgotten by this lifelong fan!

Friends of The Man, Tomorrow marks the one year mark when our benevolent leader left us. I ask that for those of you in the Bay Area commemorate this momentous date in our collective history and stop by Gian & Carlo's in North Beach. Have a Jack and Water, spin a record on the juke box, and stare wistfully into the memory of good times made great by the presence of so great a man. If we're lucky, we'll know each other by the same look in our eyes. If so, let us remember together the guy that brought us here. Thank God we've been fortunate enough to live in his world, if only for a little while. I'll see you there.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful "shrine" in which I can feel solace and afinity with so many other friends. I was 17/18 in 1958 whwn I caught on to Frank. I soon went into the Navy (62)and I was razzed a lot because I had Franks picture on the inside of my locker! Man, when he sang" come fly with me" I really wanted to go with him the first few months aboard ship. A year ago, my husband and I got married at St. Ann's in Hoboken. It was also the day Frank left us. When I introduced my then-fiance to my brother, he said he hoped Frank would hang in there- because Hoboken would be up for grabs on the day Frank passed. Well, Frank did die that day- Hoboken was up for grabs- but the wedding went off without a hitch. Thanks for the Summer Wind in front of City Hall, Frank. It was the perfect capper. Frank Sinatra will remain an icon forever. His voice was second to none and a "style" that was all his own. Frank Sinatra had class. When Sinatra was in the room the atmosphere became electric! You can find the lyrics to the song "Thanks For The Memories" at The Sinatra Songbook web page. "Thanks For The Memories" is best known as the signature song of Bob Hope.

I'm 17 and it is a very good year because I have Frank's songs and movies to get me through the tough times. I never got to meet him or go to one of his concerts but he is my idol. Being and amateur singer myself, he is my inspiration. His talents have filled a void in my life and has helped me to realize my dreams. I wish I could have told him how he has changed my life, as I'm sure many other wish. He is in our hearts and dreams. He has spanned many generations and hopefully many more to come. I consider myself living proof of this. I'm the bobby-soxer of the 90's. RIP Heaven sounds a whole lot sweeter. Frankly your, Roma

The world has never seen anyone like Francis Albert Sinatra. And perhaps it never will again. No other entertainer in history has had the dpeth and sustainability as Frank had. I listen to him, my father listens to him, and my grandfather listens to him. Times change, but one sure thing is that no matter what, a Sinatra sinlge, LP, 8-track, casstete, or CD will bring people of every generation alive today together. An Oscar winning actor,a trend-setter, a first-rate showman, and an artist whose timelesness will no doubt carry his music long enough for my grandchildren to enjoy all his best, Frank Sinatra will not be forgotten. Here's to Ol' Blue-eyes, the Leader, the Chairman of the Board. Thanks, Frank. "Look down, look down, that lonesome road before you travel on." Dave

Great site. I can't add improve on what's been written but can only add to it. First song my wife and I dance to at our wedding was "All the Way." Before her I spent my share of nights listening to his saloon songs in the dark and drinking. Although my wife just doesn't get it, I am slowly teaching my daughter to understand his greatness.

What can i say about this man, that he hasn't alrady told us in his songs. He was an angel that reminds us all of what life is, and how it should be lived. There was a song for every moment, and he lived in all of them. No matter what period of his career, he could climb onto the stage and pierce us all. I have listened to his voice every day, and his death hurts me every moment. But no matter what, he is still there...the crowd is never ending, and the night is forever long...the Daniels will always be clinking, and the smoke will always be curling....Frank has aught me so much about living, and it is more than safe to say, that He will be a beacon for all time...for singers... for performers...for the actors, and the drunks...to the losers, and the lovers....He was the man in the hats, and He taught all of us the way to wear it... God Bless you Frank Sinatra I hope that I live a hundred years, and the last voice I hear.. be yours.

I'm only 21 y/o and don't remember Sinatra very much during his "Hay Days" but I LOVE music, especially FRANK'S MUSIC. He is truly one of a kind that bought music - entertainment - to a BIG level. He will always be "Ole' Blue Eyes."

I love his music and movies. Not only are they entertaining, but they have become a part of my life. When I'm sad, I put on "I've got the World on the String" or "That's Life" it really doesn't matter what song it is, it all brings laughter and joy in my life.

Frankie may not be with us in the Flesh, but HE LIVES forevermore in my heart, radio and television - and now this website.

You guys are doing such a GOOD JOB! I really enjoy this website compared to any other website on the net. JoJo

Sinatra was the last of the great interpretors of what I think of as "old man river" music. The musical lineage that began with ragtime and went on strong through the sixties with television highlighted by Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Judy Garland and so many more. That kind of music hasn't had the same popular appeal since those days. But jazz, and the popular music of that era that relied heavily on jazz, the music of Gershwin, Cole Porter, etc., I believe is the most significant artistic achievement, even more than cinema, that America has produce in the twentieth century. And Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, and Billie Holliday, were the holy trinity of American singers. I hope that some more come along like them in the next century. And I hope that this musical legacy will rise again.

When I was young my grandfather and I would listen to Frank Sinatra as my grandfather blew in my eyes to put me to sleep on his lap. As I got older I still appreciated the sound of Frank's voice and have continued to be a fan. Frank did it his way, there was no other way for such a magnificant man. My girlfriend thinks my love for Frank's music and lifestyle is a little out of the times, but to Frank along with many others I know his music contains no time constraints and his lifestyle would make any modern man's fantasies seem boring today. To Frank I tip my black hat and have a Jack and Coke like Sammy would have done.

Friday, May 15th, 1998, I stood on the sidewalk in front of Caesar's Palace in Vegas and at 8:30PM the big neon signs there and at other casinos, went dark. I understand employees inside stopped their work and stood in silence for a moment as well. It was a brief tribute for a lifelong contribution of a never-to-be replaced entertainer. Frank Sinatra made Las Vegas what it is today, but he also gave the rest of the country, and the world, a reason to be alive. There is no person that could not find, and relate to, one of Frank's hundreds of musical recordings and not "connect" with the lyrics. He was genuine, he was tireless, and he was profoundly American in his style. And his contribution to the 20th Century will live, and be enjoyed, forever!

I was 9 yrs old in 1941,and listened to "Your HIT Parade" on the radio(no TV then). From then on,most of my life has had Frank's music in it.There wasn't very many "for the first time" experiences that didn't have a Sinatra song in it.I saw one of his last shows here --a magical night. It brought back a fond memory--I was 26(40 yrs ago)--there was a blonde, a convertible, a summer night, and Frank singing "Mr Success"--ah sweet youth. The world was ours to take and Frank was there to help us.I am saddend at the passing of another monument of my youth, but grateful that I lived and loved with his music. Thanks for the mrmories,Frank--may your BIRD live forever. Harold

From Edwin "Ol' Green Eyes" Heaven, who writes like hell:

Thursday, May 14th
Was Seinfeld's final episode.

It was also Sinatra's.

The great Francis Albert
Has left the room.

He's now with St. Peter
And Saints Dino and Sammy.

But he'll always be with us so long
As there's some brokenhearted schnook With two-bits
And a funky jukebox to play.

And we'll never forget
The way he wore his hat
Ring-a-ding-ding.
And how he was just too mah-velous
Too mah-velous for words.
Like glorious, glamorous
And that old standby enamorous.

As Cole Porter so succinctly put it
And Ol' Blue Eyes
So perfectly phrased it:
"Don't you know little fool
You never can win..."

And, sadly, Frankie's parting proves
Beyond a shadow of a smile
We're all dooby-dooby-doomed.

So let's toast The Chairman of the Board
Till the wee small hours of the morning.
And make it a Jack Daniels for my baby
And one more for the road.

Set 'em up, Joe.

FRANK SINATRA
1915 - Eternity

I became a fan of Frank's not more than a few years before he died. I heard of his death on the radio, at around 5:30am while driving to work. I developed a close connection with his music before that. Especially his albums dealing with lonliness. The first record I ever bought of his was "The September of My Years". It is one of the most beautiful and moving recordings ever made. Frank helped me get through some lonely times. It is like he said to me, "I know what lonely is, I've been there."

When I heard of Frank's death that morning, shock and sadness came over me. It was like I lost a very good friend.

Then I realized that Frank will live "From Here to Eternity".

Thanks for everything Frank
Sincerely,
Brian

Frank Sinatra and his music really mean alot to me. When I was growing up in the Bronx, New York, my father often played his favorite album.."Come Fly with Me". I still remember sitting in the living room listening to the album on the "hi-fi" as we used to call it, but the sound was great in those days. I remember the famous album cover with Frank in front of a big TWA jet and blue skies in the background...and Frank Sinatra had his trademark hat on. It was a beautiful cover...I remember that it was really a very good painting actually. Anyway, Frank Sinatra's music was always and continues to be a big, big part of my life. I still find it relaxing to listen to a Frank Sinatra album. This music I can understand! There is nobody else like Frank Sinatra..nobody ! I hope that somehow Frank Sinatra knows that he has touched alot of lives and there are songs that almost define episodes in people's lives. My father loved Sinatra so much that just before he passed away last year, he wanted "My Way" to be played at his funeral. That was my Pops!

Today being over 50 I still get that shake in my legs to get up and dance my life away with Mr Blue Eyes himself. The dream of a lifetime for every woman alife was to just touch him... he has brought much joy to the World and any award will be and would be to little to thank him for all he has done for the well being of people's soles and lives just to here him sing, and watch him dance. When I was 17 it was indeed a very good year; it was the year I discovered Frank's music. I found original mono gray-label copies of "Come Fly with Me", "Close to You", and "Songs for Only the Lonely" in a small second-hand shop when I was living in an even smaller town way out in the sticks of Vermont. When I played them I couldn't believe what I'd been missing up to then. But no longer, baby. Since then I've been collecting and collecting. In the late 80's I saw Mr. S twice in Tampa, FL, where he was performing for charity. These two concerts were wonderful, prime examples of what Tony Bennett (another class act) so aptly terms "The Silent Sinatra", the man who has devoted so much of his time to quiet, unassuming great generosity to those in need. Hearing that wonderful Riddle arrangement of "Summer Wind" live was fanfantabulous. I could go on and on, as I know many others could. Frank, Thanx a whole bunch for a lifetime of uncompromising performing honesty and excellence. A fan forever, Bob Anderson Grad Student at Kent State U. Kent, Ohio

Had the privilege of visiting the grave of Frank Sinatra, at the Palm Springs Cemetery, in Palm Springs, CA this past December. It was a very moving experience for me. Especially seeing the graves his father, mother, his uncle Vincent Mazola, his grave, his friend Jilly Rizzo, and then the parents of his widow, Barbara Sinatra, Charles and Irene Blakeley. Tooks photo's of all of them, and put them in my album. I also had the privilege of playing hooky in New York, and saw him perform at the Paramount Theater twice. Will never forget it. Have quite a few of his video's, LP's, tapes, and now the CD's. There will never be another singer like him ever. He was the greatest.

Years ago Franky had his only performance ever in Vienna - Austria. I´ve mist it, because of family-vacation in Greece. Never I can appologize this to me. Now he´s gone.

His music, his voice and carism guided me since I remember - and that is about from 1950 on. At bad times he helped to "pick me up" by myself and at good times he just re-inforced my good feelings and optimism.

Now he´s gone - but I believe in God and I´m sure we all will have the pleasure to hear and see him again.

So long, Mr. Frank Sinatra, and see you later - yours Gerhard.

I know it has been a while since Frank went to the craps table in the sky, but I wanted to add my part as well. The day that Frank passed away a friend of mine and I went straight to Hoboken to pay our respects to the town that begot our legend and spent the rest of the evening guzzling martini's at Sam's till the wee small hours of the morning. Frank Sinatra has influenced my life deeper creatively than most of my artistic mentors ever have. And with that I raise my glass to you Francis Albert.
