Francis Albert Sinatra : 1915 - 1998

The following e-mail sent by Rick Apt, a lifelong fan and collector, to a group of friends on May 13, 1998.


"I get several calls a week from people trying to sell me things. Usually it's their LP collection. Every so often a gem will come along. This is one I wanted to share with everybody hoping you will get as big a charge out of it as I did.

I would wager serious money that what you are about to read is truly authentic. The postmark, stamp on the envelope, the handwriting, and especially the text leave no doubt. The seller of this little treasure faxed me the front of the envelope and all 4 handwritten pages. Some of the words are either missing or unreadable.

I've never sent anyone's private mail to a group of people before.I'm justifying this by calling this an historical document.

I'm sitting here in the living room about to listen to the Lux Theater. Just heard Lady Eve.The President is about to speak.

Your trunk came today. I had the other key so I opened and unpacked it. I aired all your pants and fixed the closet and set everything in place.

I'm glad you bought more socks and suspenders.I was hoping you would.

The trunk is pretty well shot on the inside. The top drawer was down in the second one. Now we have two more bonds. All told we have $2000 worth. It only cost $12.45. Not much. Your sweaters are beautiful. I especially like the green and yellow xxxx one. Your white silk shirts are in a bad way.I'll have Cleo(?) sew them up for you. She should be able to get them white again.

Incidently, this is the letter you should have read at El Paso.I'm sorry I didn't get it there for you.

Heard last night's program. It was very good.This "Song is You" is a great song.

Nick called today.Said he wanted to get the key for the trunk, up here. He was surprised to hear that the trunk was here and that it was already unpacked. Didn't you know that I had the other key?

Saw Louisiana Purchase Saturday night. It was very funny.

You know, honey, seeing your clothes in the closet makes you feel closer to home.

Went to see Lucie and the baby Saturday. Searched all over NY for a dark brown short sleeve blouse and couldn't find one. Even tried to get a dark brown sweater in a second search and couldn't get that either.If you should be near any ladies shop try to get me one. But it has to be real dark brown, like your new xxxx, with the short sleeve in size 32, silk, strictly tailored.

Were you successful in getting the toilet water Momana Supreme? (?).

Well, Daddy, nothing more to write about except I love you so much that it hurts. Keep well and take care.
