Hi Harold -

I'll keep my answers brief in this forum since the questions are dealt with in some depth in our proposal.  I'd be more than happy to answer questions from you or other independent reviewers.  Write to me at a carl@media.org.

1. Differentiation.  The best thing we can do to differentiate .org is to make it a really well-run registry: rock-solid stability, transparent operations, and technical improvements such as securing the DNS.  In addition, we're proposing a variety of steps to make this more attractive to noncommercial organizations (both formal and informal).  Again, lots of details in the proposal.

2. Interaction.  Because IMS and ISC are both public benefit corporations, we have a very direct and real connection for feedback.  Everything we do is open, we're accountable to the public for our actions, and our team has long experience building level playing fields and running production services in a public setting.  If you or anybody else has a suggestion, from run-of-the-mill to major, you'll have a direct and immediate feedback channel.

3. Interruption.  No service interruptions from the point of view of the end user, a very minor break for registrars during database synchronization.  Continuity and stability are our watch words.

We appreciate the effort that you and the others in the constituency are making to provide a cohesive analysis of the proposals!  Again, please let me know if you have more questions.

Regards,

Carl Malamud
