  VIRTUAL SWORDS INTO DIGITAL PLOWSHARES

Many Internet startups that melted down failed to achieve traction in the marketplace despite doing good work. With so many companies going bust at the same time, many of them can't liquidate their intellectual property or equipment. The THE IMS !.COM PROGRAM is a way to get some good out of the bad. Your company can donate intellectual property or equipment to the Internet Multicasting Service. We'll use your equipment to build our web presence and your intellectual property will be placed in open source where people can use and enhance it.

If your company owes you money but has no cash, why not settle up with them for some used equipment or the software you wrote? You can donate your settlement to us, see your work flourish, and maybe even get reduced taxes to give yourself a break this year.

IMS appreciates all offers of used equipment and/or intellectual property, but we're afraid we have to place a few conditions on your potential gift before accepting it:

  • Quality. We're interested in software and equipment that meets our strategic goals and our standards. Contact us to see if we'll be able to make good use of your prospective donation.

  • Ownership. You'll need to prove that you really own the equipment or intellectual property. In the case of intellectual property, we'll want to see that all the people who worked on the project signed over their rights to their work product and that you did reasonable due diligence on any potential patent infringement.

  • Valuation. We need some indication of what the prospective donation is worth. In terms of code, metrics such as lines of code or number of man-months are fine. For equipment, original value and depreciation or fair market value are both fair metrics.
