Susannah McCorkle

spaceSusannah McCorkle is one of the leading jazz-pop singers of her generation. She has won numerous awards including Stereo Review's Album of the Year three times; was named Singer of the Year by the Los Angeles Times; and has been acclaimed in publications like the New York Times, People, and the Washington Post. Her newest CD is Easy to Love -- The Songs of Cole Porter, released on her long time label, Concord Jazz. Highlights of this past spring and summer include engagements at the Cinegrille in Los Angeles and the Algonquin in New York City, a concert for the NPR Convention in Washington, D.C., and an outdoor concert with the RIAS Big Band in Berlin.
spaceMs. McCorkle began singing professionally while a student in Europe. In London she sat in with swing bands in pubs and clubs and immediately found work as a featured singer with some of the best British jazz bands. In the late seventies she moved to New York and by the early eighties she began to emerge as a unique and distinctive young interpreter of standards.
spaceToday she performs in top concert halls and clubs throughout the country with groups ranging in size from jazz trio to symphony orchestra. In addition to her performances, she gives concert-lectures and workshops in American popular song to adults, college, and high school students. She is also an accomplished writer whose work has appeared most recently in the New York Times Magazine and American Heritage.
