Jonathan Schwartz
Jonathan Schwartz is the afternoon drive personality for 1560-AM WQEW on Tuesday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., his broadcast "Sinatra Saturday" features the songs of Frank Sinatra. On Sunday he is on the air from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Prior to joining WQEW, Mr. Schwartz was an air personality on WNEW-FM from 1967 through 1976, and on its AM station beginning in 1971. He was a music correspondent for NBC's "Sunday Today" for three years. He hosted "The Jonathan Schwartz Show" on MSG cable television in the mid-eighties. His voice has also been heard on commercials for Chemical Bank, Campbell's Soup, and Canada Dry. He was a regular columnist for the Village Voice for four years and for GQ magazine for three years.
Mr. Schwartz is the author of the novel The Man Who Knew Cary Grant (Random House), Almost One, a book of short stories, and the novel Distant Stations (both Doubleday). A novel, Private Thoughts From The Equator, will be published soon. His articles, stories, and columns have appeared in such publications as Harper's, the Atlantic Monthly, the New York Times, the Paris Review, Sports Illustrated, and Vanity Fair.
Mr. Schwartz has performed at Rainbow & Stars, The Ballroom, and Michael's Pub. His recordings include New Sun in the Sky (Weist Music), Anyone Would Love You, and Alone Together (both Muse Records). He is married to Elinor Renfield and has a son, Adam. He also has a daughter, Casey, from a former marriage to Mari Brenner.
